Proverbs 11

24 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25 A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Our Stewardship

  • Stewardship recognizes OWNERSHIP
  • -Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
  • Stewardship is about RELATIONSHIP with the Lord
  • - Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
  • Stewardship puts things in RIGHT ORDER.
  • - Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
  • Stewardship reflects our ATTITUDE toward God.
  • - Giving: Prov. 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase
  • Stewardship reflects our attitude toward GOD.
  • - Faithfulness: Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?

Giving:

  • Giving is RELATIVE to our resources.
  • - Luke 12:48 . . .For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required . . .
  • Giving activates the law of RETURNS.
  • - Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you. . .
  • Giving must be PERSONAL to be meaningful.

Tithing

  • Tithing is HONORING God with the first of our increase.
  • - Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
  • The tithes ALL belong to God.
  • - Leviticus 27:30 And all the tithe . . . is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD.

Giving the tithe

  • New Testament
  • - Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
  • Tithing puts you into a partnership that cannot fail (Malachi 3:8-12)
  • Malachi 3:8-12 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse . . .
    • there may be meat in mine house,
    • prove me now herewith,
    • if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
    • I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
    • all nations shall call you blessed

How should we give?

  • SYSTEMATICALLY
  • - 1 Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him . . .
  • LIBERALLY
  • - 2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
  • PURPOSEFULLY and CHEERFULLY
  • - 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
  • CONFIDENTLY
  • - 1 Corinthians 9:6…he who reaps bountifully will also reap bountifully” Malachi 3:10 …I will open for you the windows of heaven and pour out such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.
