I am in Indianapolis right now and we just finished a day of chaplain's training. One of our speakers told a story about being at a hotel in Boston. The bellman helped with his bags, so in return he offered a nice tip. The bellman replied, "oh no sir, no tip is needed, we think this is the service you should expect at a hotel."
That kind of service is not only memorable; it makes it tough on the other hotels. Apparently one hotel in Boston has decided to go above and beyond the ordinary. Is there a lesson we can learn and apply to our lives from this story?
Shouldn't that be our goal when we serve others -- not for a tip, or so that someone else will see -- it is just what people should expect from a believer. Our passion for God and our service to Him -- our attendance, devotion, giving. Shouldn't it be above and beyond. God gave His best, doesn't He deserve our very best.
I am sure that, that bellman gets a lot of joy from saying that to guests at the hotel. Let's determine to go above and beyond. "We think it is what people ought to expect from Christians."
Blessings!
